THE ROYAL COUPLE ATTENDS MARKING OF 195 ANNIVERSARY OF DEATH OF SUPREME LEADER KARADJORDJE
Belgrade, 25 July 2012 - Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine attended this morning the memorial service for the Supreme Leader Karadjordje, the commander of the First Serbian Uprising and founder of modern Serbia and the Karadjordjevic Dynasty at the St. George church at Oplenac in Topola.
Apart from Their Royal Highnesses, the memorial service, served by clergy of Oplenac vicarage, were attended by members of the Advisory Bodies of the Crown, employees of the King Peter I Foundation at Oplenac, representatives Serbian Government, representatives of the Municipality of Topola and the people who gathered to pay their respect to the founder of the modern Serbian state.
After that, at the St. George church at Oplenac, where the members of the Dynasty ?re buried, there was a ceremony of laying wreaths on Karadjordje’s grave, with state and military honors.
Wreaths were laid by Karadjordje's descendant HRH Crown Prince Alexander, representatives of the Government of Serbia, the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, Serbian Armed Forces, the Municipality of Topola, the Endowment of King Peter I at Oplenac, representatives of the local municipalities, non-governmental organizations and other admirers of Karadjordje. |
