SEVENTY EIGHT YEARS SINCE ASSASSINATION OF HM KING ALEXANDER I OF YUGOSLAVIA
Topola, 9 October 2012 – Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander II, Crown Princess Katherine, Hereditary Prince Peter and Prince Philip visited the tomb of His Majesty King Alexander I during memorial service in Oplenac on Saturday and paid respect and lit candles for their grandfather and great grandfather.
The Holy Liturgy and the Requiem were officiated today, and then wreaths were laid by representatives of Kingdom of Serbia Association on behalf of HRH Crown Prince Alexander II, representatives of Ministry of labour, employment and social policy, Ministry of defense and Serbian Army, Municipality of Topola, King Peter I Foundation, in the presence of numerous citizens of Topola and Sumadija.
HM King Alexander I of Yugoslavia was assassinated in Marseille during a state visit to France on 9 October 1934, along with the French Foreign Minister Monsieur Louis Barthou. HRH Crown Prince Alexander II is a grandson of HM King Alexander I of Yugoslavia the Unifier. |
