EXHIBITION “WITH HEROISM TO GLORY – SERBIAN SOLDIER IN THE FIRST BALKAN WAR 1912-1913”
Belgrade. 18 October 2012 – Exhibition “With Heroism to Glory – Serbian Soldier in the First Balkan War 1912-1913” officially opened today at 6 p.m. at the White Palace.
On behalf of the Royal Couple, architect Dragomir Acovic, chairman of the Privy Council addressed the audience, and Mr Nemanja Devic, one of the authors of the exhibition, Prof. Dr. Mira Radojevic and Prof. Dr. Momcilo Pavlovic officialy opened the exhibition organized in collaboration with the publishing house Služebeni glasnik.
The authors of the exhibition Mrs. Smiljana Čakarević, Mr. Nemanja Devic and Mr. Vojin Maletković wanted to show the life of Serbian soldier from the moment of mobilization, through going to the war, until the end of it. Although, the military day is set by the plans of the Command and the current situation on the field, soldier still had the moments of still when he could do something from regular civil life. In those moments he tried to divert his thoughts from the evil that war brings. He relaxed himself through reading newspapers and writing to his family, celebrated religious holidays and military achievements, and all this without neglecting the regularly military service, which he was entirely devoted to.
Also, exhibition presents the genera of the military which were not located at the frontline. Chambers, telegraph, engineers and aviators did logistical operations that allowed easier progress and better communication on the battlefield.
Photos taken during liberation of the cities have documented successes of the Serbian army and strengthened the moral of the people. Serbian soldier, who was presented as a liberator and one that fulfilled the will of people, will be reminded through them that it was part of true feats.
Exhibition "With Heroism to Glory" shows the dramatic moments of Serbian history, following the Serbian soldier who took ??the brunt of battle.
The presented material - a selection from the extensive collection – is the result of the research through the museums, archives and private collections all over the Serbia. During several months of work over 500 photographs are collected from the collection from Belgrade, Nis, Kragujevac, Uzice, Smederevo Valjevo, Cacak, Vranje, Zajecar Prokuplje.
