THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES ATTEND THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS IN ATHENS 

Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Aleksandar II and Crown Princess Katherine were delighted to attend the 15^th Anniversary Celebration of the Special Olympics in Athens. Their Royal Highnesses were seated next to His Excellency The President of the Hellenic Republic Mr. Konstantinos Stefanopoulos and other dignitaries.

To celebrate this memorable occasion athletes from 90 cities in Greece and 20 countries from Western and Eastern Mediterranean, North Africa and the Balkan Peninsula including Yugoslavia took part in the games.

The mission of the of the Special Olympics is to provide year around sports training and athletics competition in a variety of Olympic type sports for children and adults with mental retardation, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts skills and friendship with their families and with other Special Olympic athletes and the community.
