HRH CROWN PRINCE ALEKSANDAR II THE PATRON OF THE ROWING CLUB “RED STAR- BELGRADE” Belgrade, 16 September 2002 – The patronage of the Royal Family of the rowing club “Red Star-Belgrade” was formally renewed in the club in Ada Ciganlija last night, and at the same time a new sports center named “Sport rowing club” was opened. The rowing club that was founded in 1922 under the name “Belgrade”, was under the high patronage of HM Queen Marija since 1929. After changing its name to Rowing Club “Red Star” in 1945, it returned to its original name “Belgrade” in 1997, and since then its name is Rowing Club “Red Star – Belgrade”. Together with Crown Prince Aleksandar II and Princess Katherine the ceremony was attended by about a thousand invitees, among whom a great number of sport fans, former and present members of the club, as well as friends from other sport societies. Formal act on patronage was signed by Crown Prince Aleksandar II and Prof. Dr. Dragoljub Kavran, the chairman of this rowing club, and the member of the Crown Council. Addressing the present, the Crown Prince said that he was very honoured by the invitation to take the patronage and in that way continue the precious bond between the Royal Family and this club. “I wish that this club prosper in every way, and that it is our pride today and tomorrow, like our predecessors were proud of it in the past”, said Crown Prince Aleksandar II. After signing the chart, the new sport center was opened, with a match between “Red Star” and “Partizan” football clubs’ veterans, and the first kick was done by Crown Prince Aleksandar II. |
