THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES AT 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF CONSECRATION OF ST.SAVA CHURCH IN LONDON

Belgrade, 30 September, 2002 – On Sunday 29th September, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the consecration of Saint Sava’s Church in London, Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Aleksandar and Crown Princess Katarina attended the Holy Liturgy celebrated by His Holiness Patriarch Pavle of Serbia assisted by Bishops Dositej of Great Britain and Scandinavia, Lavrentije of Sabac and Valjevo, Konstantin of Central Europe and other monks and priests.

The Yugoslav Ambassador to London His Excellency Dr. Vladeta Jankovic, Bishops and representatives of sister Orthodox Churches in London, representatives of Anglican, Roman Catholic, Coptic, Ethiopian, Armenian churches and many believers attended the Liturgy.

On Sunday afternoon a special programme was staged in Kensington & Chelsea Town Hall. St. Sava’s Church choir, church school, folk dance group “Rastko”, renowned Serbian actors and octet conducted by Archdeacon Vlada Mikic from Belgrade took part. HRH Crown Prince Aleksandar II addressed the meeting.

St. Sava’s Church was consecrated fifty years ago by the late Bishop Nikolaj Velimirovic, of Zica, one of the outstanding bishops and theologians of the Serbian Orthodox Church in recent times.

On Saturday 28th September, Crown Prince Aleksandar II and Crown Princess Katarina attended a luncheon given by His Eminence Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain in honour of His Holiness Patriarch Pavle of Serbia at the archbishop’s residence.
