THE CHANCELLERY of
HRH CROWN PRINCE ALEXANDER
OF YUGOSLAVIA’s

STATEMENT

The Office of HRH Crown Alexander states that within a round of consultations with political leaders and other public figures from Yugoslavia, HRH Crown Prince Alexander received on 22 June 1999 Dr. Zoran Djindjic, Chairman of the Democratic Party, who was on a visit to London.   Dr. Djindjic told His Royal Highness how he views the situation at this difficult time for our country and people and informed him about his contacts and conversations with leading personalities in various European countries.  HRH Crown Prince Alexander and Dr. Djindjic agreed that it was necessary to do everything to prevent Yugoslavia’s further international isolation and facilitate the return of our country into the community of European nations as soon as possible.  In their talks His Royal Highness and the Chairman of the Democratic Party expressed their full support for the recent demand by the Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church for the resignation of President Milosevic and his government “in the interest of the people and for their salvation” and for the formation of a government of national salvation which would take over the responsibility for our people and their future.
