HRH CROWN PRINCE ALEKSANDAR II VISITS KRUPANJ Celebration of the jubilee of the Church of the Holy Ascension and marking the 88th anniversary of the battle of Mačkov Kamen Belgrade, 19 October 2002 – HRH Crown Prince Aleksandar II visited Krupanj today, where he attended the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Church of the Holy Ascension and marking of the 88th anniversary of the famous World War I battle of Mačkov Kamen. Academician and the member of the Crown Council Mr. Matija Bećković was accompanying HRH Crown Prince Aleksandar II. Upon the arrival to Krupanj, Crown Prince Aleksandar II was welcomed by the president of the municipality and representative of the Socialist Party of Serbia Mr. Dobrivoje Teovanović with his associates. After the reception at the Town Hall Crown Prince Aleksandar II attended a memorial service to the soldiers killed in World War I was served by His Grace Bishop Lavrentije of Šabac and Valjevo with clergy in the Church of the Holy Assumption. When the service was over, the Church choir sang the hymn “God of Justice” in front of the Church, and then Crown Prince Aleksandar II addressed the present: “We have just prayed for the souls of our ancestors. We must never forget why they gave their lives, and we must not fail them, because we would fail not only them, but ourselves and those who are coming after us as well”. After this addressing, Crown Prince Aleksandar laid flowers for the souls of the dead warriors, and then the academician Matija Bećković opened the exhibition “Rađevina – memories of the Karađorđevićs”, organized by Father Aleksandar Đurđev. After Krupanj, Crown Prince visited Mačkov Kamen where the 88th anniversary of the famous World War I battle was marked, and laid flowers in the crypt. The visit was finished by calling upon the XVI century Church of the Holy Ascension in Dobri Potok.
