Belgrade, 30 October 2002 – TRH Crown Prince Aleksandar II and Crown Princess Katherine attended the promotion of the book “Marija Karadjordjevic – the Queen Mother”, written by Mrs. Danica Colovic and Mr. Srdjan Colovic, at the Art Department of the City of Belgrade Library last night.

The promotion was also, beside many visitors, attended by His Grace Bishop Atanasije of Hvost and His Excellency Mr. Stefan Vasile, the ambassador of Romania.

Members of the Crown Council Mr. Dragomir Acovic and Prof. Dr. Slobodan Vitanovic, and Mr. Milic Petrovic, historian, spoke about the book. On behalf of the publisher, the present were addressed by the director of the Archive of Serbia Mr. Jovan Pejin. The authors, Mrs. Danica Colovic and her son Mr. Srdjan Colovic gave a final word at the promotion thanking to their associates for the great support during the process of making the book.

“I am certain that there are few personages in our history who deserve greater gratitude and attention of the people of former Yugoslavia, and who got less gratitude and attention than the late Queen Marija Karadjordjevic”, said Mr. Dragomir Acovic last night.

Professor Vitanovic emphasized that “this book pours the light on the part of unjustly neglected history”.

Belgrade String Quartet, part of the Royal Strings of Saint George, performed between the speakers, and theatre actors read fragments from the book.

One of the authors, Mr. Srdjan Colovic presented Their Royal Highnesses with a copy of the book in leather binding, for which Crown Prince Aleksandar II kindly thanked.
