HRH CROWN PRINCE Alexander II VISITS FACULTY OF POLITICAL SCIENCES IN BELGRADE Belgrade, 12 October 2002 – HRH Crown Prince Alexander II visited the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade today, accompanied by the member of the Crown Council Prof. Dr. Dragoljub Kavran. During the visit, the Crown Prince first met with the dean Prof. Dr. Mijat Damjanovic and vice-deans of the Faculty, and then called upon the students and visited information center, library, PALGO (Public Administration and Local Government) center and media center of the Faculty. The dean, Prof. Damjanovic thanked to the Crown Prince for his support of the young, pointing out that investing into education of young generations is the key to progress of every nation. Addressing the students in the full amphitheatre during history lecture, held by the vice-dean Prof. Dr. Ljiljana Trgovcevic- Mitrovic, the Crown Prince invited them to apply for the contest of the Fund of the Royal House of Karadjordjevic that will again this year grant one hundred senior undergraduate students of our universities who are talented in science, technology and art. In the cordial and open conversation with the students, the Crown Prince spoke about current economic and political issues, among others about the question of constitutional monarchy. He appealed for education on this issue, emphasizing that the role of constitutional monarchy is to bind people and act as a symbol of unity and continuity, fully respecting all religions and ethnic groups. The Crown Prince gave examples of European and other constitutional monarchies that represent highly developed open societies founded on democratic principles and achieving the highest standards in respecting human rights. A round table was then organized at the Professors’ Club, where the students and professors of the Faculty also discussed many current affairs. On behalf of the host, vice-dean Prof. Dr. Vukasin Pavlovic praised the Crown Prince for his support for the democratic changes in Serbia. “Educated in Europe and oriented towards it, you have realized the importance of our opening to Europe and the world, and by your reputation and the reputation of your family you have given your personal contribution to that process. Your role in the public life is important above all from social and cultural, and not political point, and that is why it is good for you to communicate with the people directly”, said Prof. Pavlovic. |
