HRH CROWN PRINCESS KATHERINE OPENS NEW YEAR’S HUMANITARIAN BAZAAR AT THE “HYATT” HOTEL

Belgrade, 13 December 2002 – HRH Crown Princess Katherine together with the Commissioner for Refugees of the Republic of Serbia Mrs. Sanda Raskovic, opened the third, special, new year’s humanitarian bazaar at the “Atlantic” hall of the “Intercontinental Hotel “ today.

This year’s bazaar was organized by “YEN”, Japanese humanitarian organization that has been working in our country since 1994.

Women refugees and internally displaced women from Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo exhibited their handicraft works that in the best way present the folklore and the richness of the environment that they origin from and that they had left not on their will.

The opening was attended by the wife of the Prime Minister, Mrs. Ruzica Djindjic, the wives of the American and British Ambassadors, Mrs. Lynne Montgomery and Mrs. Helen Crawford, as well as the wives of other ambassadors and ministers, and the representatives of NGOs.

Opening the bazaar, Princess Katherine said that Christmas and New Year ahead of us ere the time when we gather in peace and love, the time when we give to our close ones and when by our love we confirm ourselves as caring people.

She appealed to all people of good will to visit the bazaar, and bring joy to their loved ones and help the refugees and internally displaced persons by purchasing some of the handicraft works.

“We all wish this program to become traditional, for the skills of our women are amazing and they commit us to cherish their talent”, added Princess Katherine.

The bazaar will be open today, on Friday 13 December, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and admission is free.

All proceeds from the sold handicraft works is intended directly to refugee women and internally displaced persons.
