NEW DONATIONS OF THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES TO BELGRADE HOSPITALS AND ORPHANAGES Belgrade, 15 January – TRH Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine visited the Institute for Neuro-psychiatric diseases “Dr. Laza Lazarevic”, The First Surgical Clinic of the Clinical Center of Serbia and Home for Children without parental care “Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj” in Belgrade today, where they delivered donations in food, clothes and shoes, worth over € 65,000 total. Their Royal Highnesses also called upon the most numerous family in Belgrade, the Arambasics, and brought joy to their fourteen children by presenting them with clothes and shoes. Accompanying the Crown Prince and Crown Princess were the daughter of Princess Katherine Mrs. Alison Garfinkel as well as Dr. Elaine Laycock and Dr. Pat Fisher from London office of “Lifeline” humanitarian organization, patroned by Princess Katherine. The visit of Their Royal Highnesses and their guests was covered by Greek TV “Star”, that is making a program about the humanitarian activities of HRH Crown Princess Katherine. TRH Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Prince Katherine first visited the Institute for Neuro-psychiatric diseases “Dr. Laza Lazarevic” in Belgrade. The Foundation of HRH Crown Princess Katherine provided 40 windows for this institution and 60 more were provided for the Psychiatric Hospital in Padinska Skela. The director of the Institute Dr. Ivan Dimitrijevic, doctors and nurses of this hospital, warmly welcomed and thanked the Crown Prince and Crown Princess, and then showed their premises with new windows to the guests. Crown Prince Alexander II took the opportunity to point at the problem of patients with post-war syndrome who are 25% of total number of patients. Through the Greek TV “Star”, the Crown Prince appealed to Greece as the presiding country of European Union in the next six months, to remember those people and to make their recovery possible by providing the necessary medications. Continuing their tour of Belgrade hospitals, Their Royal Highnesses visited The First Surgical Clinic of the Clinical Center of Serbia where medical equipment consisting of blood analyzer and two monitoring systems, worth €50,000 total was delivered to this important health institution. This donation is the result of great effort of Princess Katherine in humanitarian work and it will be used in the best possible way in this hospital in which our top doctors and surgeons successfully work and apply their expertise. The Foundation of HRH Crown Princess Katherine has recently organized the guest performance of the top laparoscopic surgeon Dr. Constantine Constantinidis with his team at The First Surgical Clinic of the Clinical Center of Serbia. During his stay and after checking the patients, several laparoscopic operations were performed and the most advanced technique of treating diaphragmal hernia was applied. Their Royal Highnesses then visited the orphanage “Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj” where they delivered 2,000 kg of raw and dried meat, worth €11,000, donated by Lau family from Canada, as well as clothes, shoes and toys. This orphanage has a central kitchen which prepares meals for seven other children’s homes in Belgrade, and the donation will satisfy their needs in the next three months. Addressing the staff, and above all the children, Princess Katherine pointed out the importance of taking part in activities like this one. “The greatest award for our efforts is the children’s smile, which should replace the tears on their faces and give them hope that they are not alone and that our hearts and our love are dedicated to them”, said the Princess.
