IMPORTANT CHARITY EVENT IN ATHENS

OVER 300.000 EUROS FOR MEDICAL EQUIPMENT AND AMBULANCES

Athens 27 March 2003 – TRH Crown Prince Alexander II and Princess Katherine successfully gathered many friends at a charity dinner on Thursday, 27 March 2003 at the Ekali Club in Athens. Donations were received in excess of 300.000 Euros consisting of new medical equipment and ambulances for the health institutions in Serbia and Montenegro.

His Excellency the Ambassador Serbia and Montenegro Dr. Dusan T. Batakovic read a letter to HRH Princess Katherine from the Serbian Minister of Health His Excellency Dr. Tomica Milosavljevic wishing her success for her effort and thanking the Greek people for their continued support.

During visits to the hospitals in Serbia and Montenegro Their Royal Highnesses witnessed extremely difficult conditions in which our doctors and nurses work. The medical equipment is very old, broken and out of date thus depriving patients of adequate preventive and diagnostic services. Their Royal Highnesses wished to continue the work to improve these tragic conditions by providing new medical equipment and ambulances to save lives.

The donors gave over 300.000 Euros by making cheques and drafts directly in favour of the manufacturers of equipment. The full cost of beverages, food and flowers for the evening were also kindly donated.

Their Royal Highnesses are very appreciative to the people and government of Greece for their continued humanitarian assistance over so many years. It is thanks to the generosity and concern of the Greek people for our country that this humanitarian appeal was such a success.
