TRH CROWN PRINCE ALEXANDER II AND CROWN PRINCESS KATHERINE VISIT THE FACULTY OF PHARMACOLOGY IN BELGRADE Belgrade, 2 April 2003 – TRH Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine visited the Faculty of Pharmacology in Belgrade today. Their Royal Highnesses were welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacology Prof. Dr. Darko Ivanovic with his associates, and took the distinguished guests for a tour of the Faculty. In the amphitheatre the present were first greeted by Prof. Dr. Ivanovic, and then Crown Prince Alexander II, evidently very pleased for being among young people, addressed the gathered students: “I have often had a chance to see for myself how our experts are very much appreciated abroad, and the job that you are going to be doing is of great importance. My wife Princess Katherine and I will do our best to help you in your work in the future and in developing our pharmaceutical industry, for we possess both knowledge and opportunities to do that. Their Royal Highnesses then called upon the Dean’s Office where they talked to the professors and students – the grantees of the Fund of the Royal House of Karadjordjevic. Crown Prince Alexander II emphasized that we do have successful pharmaceutical companies like “Hemofarm” from Vrsac, “Zdravlje” from Leskovac and many others, and that they all represent our country in a right way. His Royal Highness added that their example should be followed and that the Faculty of Pharmacology should work together with them in establishing our country as a pharmaceutical industry center in Europe. HRH Crown Princess Katherine suggested that the public should be informed on the current issue in pharmaceutical industry: the great successes but also the problems that the experts are facing every day. The Princess added that “The Week of Serbia and Montenegro” should be organized in all the countries of the world, where our rich cultural heritage should be presented, as well as the potentials for investors and the current situation in our health care system. The grantees of the Fund of the Royal House of Karadjordjevic, prompted by the Princesses suggestion, added that they have already prepared the presentation of the Faculty of Pharmacology, as well as of our country’s tourist offer and our tradition, for the international gathering of students in Portoroz (Slovenia). The professors thanked Their Royal Highnesses for the scholarships of the Fund of the Royal House of Karadjordjevic to the best and most talented students, which will leave a permanent mark and become a solid foundation for a better future. After the meeting at the Dean’s Office, TRH Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine took a tour of laboratories, the Museum of Pharmacy and computer center.
