ST. GEORGE'S DAY- THE DAY OF THE GUARD BRIGADE Belgrade, 6 May 2003 – HRH Crown Prince Alexander II attended the celebration of the Day of the Guard Brigade at the barracks in Dedinje. Crown Prince Alexander II was welcomed and greeted by the Commander of this elite brigade Colonel Cosic, who introduced the distinguished guest to the history of the Guard, established by Prince Milos Obrenovic on St. George’s Day in 1830. The guard today is still a specially chosen and trained unit for personal protection and security of the head of state, top state and military officials and institutions. At the beginning of the official ceremony the members of this unit and the guests were addressed by the deputy Chief of Staff of the Army of Serbia and Montenegro Vice-admiral Milivoje Pavlovic who congratulated the soldiers and officers their Day, and commended them for well done duties. The Day of the Guard brigade was, by telegram, also congratulated by the President of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro Mr. Svetozar Marovic and the Chief of Staff of the Army of Serbia and Montenegro General Branko Krga. Then followed the parade of this unit, after which the guests took the tour of the barracks. At the end of the visit Crown Prince Alexander II was presented with the badge of the Guard and the monography about the Brigade.
