THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF QUEEN ELIZABETH’S CORONATION CELEBRATED TODAY Belgrade, 2 June 2003 - TRH Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine, invited by HM Queen Elizabeth II, attended today the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Her coronation. This commemoration at Westminster Abbey was attended by all religious leaders and members of foreign Royal Families. The 2 June 2003 is a very special date in the United Kingdom, it marks the 50th anniversary of the coronation of The Queen. Coronations have taken place at Westminster Abbey for over 900 years. On 2 June 1953 Queen Elizabeth II, aged 27, became the 39th monarch to be anointed in this solemn religious ceremony. Back then in 1953 millions of people, standing on the streets of London, watching at home on their new television sets or listening to the radio, shared the Coronation Day celebrations. HRH Crown Prince Alexander II is related to HM Queen Elizabeth II, through Queen Victoria and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh (husband of HM Queen Elizabeth II) who is the second cousin of Crown Prince Alexander’s mother HM Queen Alexandra. HM Queen Elizabeth II is also Crown Prince Alexander’s godmother she baptized him in the very same Westminster Abbey in 1945. Queen Elizabeth II father the late HM King George VI was Crown Prince Alexander’s godfather. In the evening, Their Royal Highnesses, invited by HRH The Prince of Wales, will attend dinner in honor of his mother HM Queen Elizabeth II at Clarence House where the late Queen Mother lived.
