Belgrade, 11 September 2003 – HRH Crown Prince Alexander II attended the presentation of the documentary TV series “On Karadjordje’s trail” at Karadjordjev Konak in Topola today. The project is produced by the educational and scientific program of Radio Television of Serbia, on the occasion of the First Serbian Uprising Bicentennial.

Beside Crown Prince Alexander as the guest of honour, the press conference was attended by the general manager of Radio Television Serbia Mr. Aleksandar Crkvenjakov, editor in chief of the educational and scientific program Miss Olivera Kosic, editor of the series Mr. Velibor Lazarevic, the director Mr. Miroslav Zivanovic, the writer Mr. Mile Nedeljkovic, the actor Mr. Nebojsa Kundacina who plays the role of Karadjordje, the entire crew and the representatives of Topola municipality.

HRH Crown Prince Alexander II opened the press conference:

“We are here today to announce the great project of the Radio Television of Serbia, the documentary series dedicated to my great-great-grandfather, Supreme Leader Karadjordje. The next year we celebrate bicentennial of the First Serbian Uprising and establishment of modern Serbian state. It is a milestone in Serbian nation’s history, culture and state. This anniversary should be shared as a joint heritage with other peoples.” Congratulating to RTS, HRH Crown Prince Alexander II expressed his hope that this project will bring closer this part of our history to our young people, and also to the international audience.

The premiere is scheduled for the Presentation of Our Lord Day next year, within the celebration of the First Serbian Uprising bicentennial. Twelve 30 minutes episodes will present the life of Supreme Leader Karadjordje and all important events and places connected to the Uprising. It re-enacts the most important personages of this crucial historical event which liberated Serbia from centuries long slavery and brought it among modern European states.

The making of the documentary series took place in over two hundred locations in Serbia – from the Drina to the Timok and from Sjenica to Sombor, all of which, in the words of Mr. Nedeljkovic, Karadjordje went to on foot.

A special trench fortification was built in Topola as the scene set, and it was shown to the journalists after the press conference.
