Serbia and Montenegro – a Constitutional Parliamentary
Monarchy and a Republic

Belgrade, 4 December 2003 - His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander has made the following statement about a Republic and a Constitutional Parliamentary Monarchy in a union.

“It is important to note that a Republic and a Constitutional Parliamentary Monarchy can and will function in a union in a democratic way respecting all citizens and their rights.

Take note that in the European Union there are Constitutional Parliamentary Monarchies and Republics that work together hand in hand on a daily basis for the good of all citizens of the European Union. In addition the European Union rotates presidency every six months Republics take their turn as well as Constitutional Parliamentary Monarchies take their turn. The system works and there is mutual respect for all and democratic principles are fully adhered to.”

“So in any case we should get used to working together for the common good of all citizens and not against each other. The need for economic revival is critical as our citizens must have jobs and good social services. After the parliamentary elections of 28 December the government and parliament will have the task to work hard for all our people and our future.”
