THE FOUNDATION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF BELGRADE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE UNDER PATRONAGE OF THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES STARTS ITS WORK

The beginning of the Foundation’s work marked by cooperation with physicians from Indianapolis

Belgrade, 4 December 2003 – TRH Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine attended today the ceremony of the beginning of work of the Foundation of the University of Belgrade School of Medicine (UBSM), under patronage of Their Royal Highnesses.

Beside Their Royal Highnesses, the ceremony was enhanced by the presence of the guest experts from Indianapolis, from the fields of gynecology, neonatology and pediatrics. Dr. Allen Golisovski, Dr. Charles Daitsen and Dr. Judith Ernest are going to deliver a series of lectures to our local experts, during their stay in Belgrade.

At the beginning of the ceremony, the present were addressed by the Dean of the UBSM Prof. Dr. Vladimir Kostic who thanked Their Royal Highnesses for the continuing help to this and other medical and educational institutions.

Then the present were addressed by HRH Crown Prince Alexander II who emphasized the tradition of Karadjordjevic Family in helping our health and educational institutions. The aim of the Foundation, as the Crown Prince said, is to provide scholarships for the experts in various fields of medical science, cooperation with relevant international institutions and improving of the working standards of the UBSM.

“The first step in that direction has already been made, through cooperation with the School for Infectious and Tropical Diseases in London. I am particularly glad that Dr. Stevanovic the first grantee of this internationally recognized institution, is with us today” – emphasized the Crown Prince.

In the program that followed, the guests were handed over the Diplomas and presents. The Indianapolis doctors thanked their hosts for the warm hospitality and expressed their hope that more of our experts will have the opportunity to continue their training in Indianapolis, as well as the hope that the established cooperation will be fruitful and lead to a lasting friendship.
