VISIT TO THE HISTORY CLASS AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL “SUPREME LEADER KARADJORDJE” Belgrade, 17 February 2004 – TRH Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine attended a history class dedicated to The First Serbian Uprising Bicentennial, at the elementary school “Supreme Leader Karadjordje” in Vozdovac. Their Royal Highnesses were warmly welcomed and greeted with a big applause by the students in front of the school, and on behalf of the teachers they were addressed by the Headmaster, Mr. Milan Zegarac. During the visit to the school and a short conversation with the teachers, Their Royal Highnesses were introduced to the situation at the school and the conditions in which the children are educated. After that the Crown Prince and the Crown Princess attended the history class dedicated to the great jubilee. At the beginning of the lesson, HRH Crown Prince Alexander II addressed the pupils: “Even two centuries ago, my great-great-grandfather Karadjordje knew how important education was; that is why he established the first higher education institution in Serbia – the Great School – the predecessor of today’s University; that is why he made efforts to open a school in every town – for there is no future without education; and the future is you. One day you are going to be engineers, doctors, lawyers. You are going to lead this country one day. The more knowledge you have, the better place our country will be for all of us” – emphasized the Crown Prince in his speech. The pupils then took the chance to ask the Crown Prince and the Crown Princess many questions about our history and The Royal Family, but also to share their plans for the future with them. |
