THE NAME “KING ALEXANDER I” RETURNED TO THE STUDENTS’ HOME
Belgrade, 5 April 2004 – HRH Crown Prince Alexander II congratulated yesterday to the General Manager of the Students’ Homes Mr. Mladen Cukanovic,. on the occasion of 4 April, the Students’ Day: “It is my great pleasure that this students’ home has been returned the name of my grandfather. My ancestors had always given first rate importance to the education of the young, and my family and I shall by all means continue the tradition. The young are the future of our country, and we are going to try to assist in every way the establish the best conditions for our students and pupils to acquire knowledge. On behalf of HRH Crown Prince Alexander II the ceremony in the students’ home “Lola”, to which the name of its donor King Alexander I has been returned, was attended by the member of the Crown Council, Mr. Dragomir Acovic. Unveiling the plaque, in a short speech to the gathered students Mr. Acovic pointed out that the gesture of returning the name “King Alexander I” to the students’ home is above all “an act of common decency and responsibility”, and reminded that the King was just one of many Serbs who believed they should put their knowledge and their wealth to the service of general welfare. |
