INTERNATIONAL CYCLING RACE “THROUGH SERBIA” DELEGATION AT A RECEPTION AT THE ROYAL PALACE

Belgrade, 7 April 2004 – HRH Crown Prince Alexander II received the delegation of the Organization Committee of the 65th International Cycling Race “Through Serbia”.

HRH Crown Prince Alexander II greeted the guests and congratulated them on the 65 years of the biggest international sport event in our country, wishing them many years of success in their work and in the competitions. HE Minister of Trade and Tourism Prof. Dr. Bojan Dimitrijevic and the veteran of our sport and the Chairman of the Organization Committee of the Race Mr. Bora Ivkovic thanked the Crown Prince for the warm welcome. As a memento of today’s meeting they presented the Crown Prince with the video containing a documentary of the first Race organized in 1939 under patronage of the Crown Prince’s father, HM Peter II, a reprint of the booklet about the Race and a golden cross made in the Brothers Jeremic foundry.

The International Cycling Race “Through Serbia” has been organized every year since 1939. The patron of the first two Races was the father of HRH Crown Prince Alexander II, HM King Peter II. The tradition was discontinued in 1940, and the Race was organized again in 1963, and it has been taking place since, lasting for six days. This years “Through Serbia” starts on 15 June in Belgrade, and the finish is on 20 June in Pozarevac.

After the reception the guests took a tour of The Royal and The White Palace escorted by the Palace Guide, and were introduced to the rich history of the Royal Compound.
