CONGRATULATIONS ON THE WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY
Belgrade, 3 May 2004 – HRH Crown Prince Alexander II extended his congratulations today to the President of Journalists’ Association of Serbia Mr. Nino Brajovic and to the President of the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia Mr. Nebojsa Bugarinovic on the ocasion of the World Press Freedom Day. “Тhe media’s work to provide independent and trustworthy information contributes significantly to processes of reconstruction and reconciliation of our society. Democracy demands accurate media and high standards. Our media must be fair and balanced and should always verify information for accuracy. We have come a long way with our media thanks so many valiant people in the media industry. It is very important that this day is also one on which we should remember and pay tribute to all journalists who have been killed in the line of duty, or whose reporting has led to their imprisonment and detention throughout the world. Hoping that all media people will be able to do their vital work in safety and without fear, I wish the free press to remain one of the most important sources information to everyone” – said the Crown Prince in his letter of congratulations.
