PROCESSION IN HONOR OF SAINT SAVA IN THE STREETS OF BELGRADE
Belgrade, 9 May 2004 – TRH Crown Prince Alexander II and Princess Katherine joined today the procession in honor of Saint Sava, that started from the place that used to be called “Istanbul Gate”, today’s Republic Square, to the Temple of Saint Sava. The procession was led by His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch and His All-Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. In the biggest procession so far, beside the Arch Hierarchs of the Orthodox Churches, were the clergy and monastics of the Serbian Orthodox Church, representatives of the Government and the Army, and thousands of Belgraders. Special air to the procession was given by the members of folklore troupes, wearing national costumes, Guard of Honor platoons of the Army, Gendarmerie and Police. The stream of people on its way to the Temple of Saint Sava stopped at Terazije Square and in front of the Belgrade Palace. At the Temple, the second Gathering of Serbian Choirs was held, at which the Byzantine, Serbian and Russian spiritual music was performed.
