THE CROWN PRINCE AND CROWN PRINCESS COMMEMORATE VIDOVDAN AT ST SAVA CATHEDRAL IN NEW YORK CITY

New York City, 27 June 2004 – TRH Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine attended the service and commemoration of Vidovdan at St. Sava Cathedral in New York City. They were warmly greeted by Bishop Mitrofan and Father Djokan Majstorovic and the rest of the congregation.

After the service Prince Alexander gave a speech to the congregation urging the Serbian community to use the lessons of the past to help build its future. The service was attended by many members of the New York Serbian community including Dr. Milos Prica who is Deputy Ambassador of Bosnia and Hercegovina to United Nations, Ms. Mira Luna, President of the Executive Board of the St. Sava Cathedral, and Dr. Ljubo Vujovic M.D., Secretary General of Tesla Memorial Society.

After the service, children from the National “Skolska Deca” under the direction of Ljiljana Knezevic, performed a play re-enacting the events of Vidovdan. Upon conclusion of the play, the Crown Prince and Crown Princess were invited to a lunch in the church hall where Prince Alexander was then again invited by Bishop Mitrofan to give more words of encouragement.

“I am very happy to be together with you today, to celebrate Vidovdan, the great holiday when we commemorate all Serbs who gave their lives for “holly cross and golden freedom”.

They gave us an example which we should follow, but we live in another era and we should show the other kind of heroism. Therefore I would invite all to put our efforts together to build modern Serbian state and society based on justice, true democracy, mutual respect and tolerance.

Our ancestors will be proud of our success” – emphasized the Crown Prince in his speech.
