HRH CROWN PRINCE ALEXANDER II OPENS “MISIC’S DAYS” IN MIONICA
Belgrade, 12 July 2004 – HRH Crown Prince Alexander II opened the traditional manifestation “Misic’s Days”, which has been organized in Mionica for over ten years, with the aim to cherish the memory of Zivojin Misic, the most successful Serbian military leader. His Royal Highness was welcomed by the Mayor of Mionica, Mr. Miroslav Trifunovic, on behalf of all the citizens and organizers of the manifestation. The Crown Prince first went to Mionica Church where he was greeted by His Grace Bishop Lavrentije of Sabac and Valjevo. A procession by the participants of the manifestation followed in the main street of Mionica. At the newly built Uprisers Square, the Crown Prince unveiled the monument to the insurrectors from Kolubara region, and then attended the opening of art exhibition of the most important Serbian and European painters, contemporaries of Vojvoda Misic. HRH Crown Prince Alexander II laid a wreath to the monument to Vojvoda Misic, and formally opened this years “Misic’s Days”, addressing numerous citizens of Mionica: “Zivojin Misic indebted our people by his vision and strategy which had brought freedom to Serbia. We owe Zivojin Misic our dedication to our history and our children. State, just like family, demands everyday care and unselfish efforts. We must turn ourselves to the future, respect everybody, regardless of ethnic or religious origin or political orientation. Only in this way will Serbia become a part of the great European family, which will make proud both our ancestors and our descendants” – emphasized the Crown Prince. The best trainees of the special General Headquarters Officers School, colonels Goran Zekovic, Milosav Simovic and Nikola Karanovic, were awarded with the “Great Golden Plaque of Vojvoda Misic” by the Crown Prince. The awarding ceremony ended by an artistic program entitled “Birth of Freedom and the State of Serbia”, performed in honor of the First Serbian Uprising Bicentennial and the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Kolubara. The visit of Mionica was finished by going to the new mineral water factory “Voda” in the nearby Vrujci Spa, where the host to the Crown Prince was Mr. Vojin Djordjevic, the owner of “Si&Si” company.
