MONASTERY OF BANJSKA RECONSTRUCTED

Belgrade, 16 August 2004 – After 520 years, a Holy Liturgy was celebrated at the monastery of Banjska in the north of Kosovo, on the occasion of reconstruction of the Imperial Monastery. The Liturgy was celebrated by His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch Pavle assisted by His Grace Bishop Artemije, the clergy and monastics of Raska and Prizren Bishopric.

On behalf of HRH Crown Prince Alexander II this magnificent celebration was attended by a member of the Crown Council, Prof. Dr. Dragoljub Kavran who joined HE the Minister of Religion Mr. Milan Radulovic and numerous citizens of the region.

In his addressing to the guests and the gathered faithful, His Holiness emphasized that this church as well as all the other churches are warning Serbian people about the transience of time.

The monastery of Banjska resurrected after five hundred and twenty years of devastation in his amazing beauty thanks to many donors. This monastery is the most famous endowment of Serbian medieval King Milutin, and his earthly remains were buried in it.
