RECEPTION IN HONOUR OF THE 125TH ANNIVERSARY OF BIRTH OF MILUTIN MILANKOVIC
Belgrade, 30. August 2004 – TRH Crown Prince Alexander II and Crown Princess Katherine hosted a reception at The Royal Palace tonight, for the members of the Serbian Accademy of Science of Art and participants of the symposium “Paleo-climate and climate system of the Earth”, on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of birth of our great scientist Milutin Milankovic. Civil engineer, astronomer, mathematician and geo-physicist, Milankovic was above all the founder of modern climatology and climate modeling. His work “Canon of Insolation of the Earth and its Application to the Problem of the Iice Ages” is the most important work of Serbian science in the 20th century. The world definitely recognized Milankovic’s genius thirty years ago, when his calculations were confirmed as accurate, and he was finally given the rightfully deserved place among the scientific elite. Milutin Milankovic is a national treasure, and that this gathering dedicated to the giant of our science will significantly contribute to his taking the proper place in Serbia too. The reception in honor of the great scientist was attended by our academicians, their guests – scientists from the USA, Russia, Europe, China and Japan, cultural and scientific ataches from the countries they come from, representatives of the University of Belgrade, members of the Advisory bodies of the Crown, as well as by three granddaughters of Milutin Milankovic – Vera, Marina and Marija.
