Coats of arms of the Royal Family Karadjordjevic, as well as many interesting facts about heraldry and history of the Karadjordjevics, are expecting visitors of the exhibition “Heraldry of the House of Karadjordje” which was opened at the White Palace in Dedinje.

The exhibition was officially opened by HRH Crown Prince Alexander:

“Heraldry is a discipline that many are interested in, but few know it, sometimes it is very controversial, but important as a part of the language of signs and symbols. Similarly to a name or signature, coat of arms is part of individual and group image of its owner and user. Coat of arms obliges and represents its possessor. One cannot escape or distance from one’s coat of arms because it is the image of one’s ancestors, one’s present and future. We, the Karadjordjevics, know that well, because the coats of arms of Serbia and its Supreme Leader have followed us from the first to the last day of our lives. When we are in any doubt, just one look at our emblem gives us back our confidence. When we ask ourselves who we are and where we are, Serbia gives us the answer! This is not an exhibition of great pretensions, but it is a display of great themes and great warnings”, said Crown Prince Alexander in his speech.

The opening was attended by HRH Princess Katherine, the daughter of Their Royal Highnesses Alison, members of the Advisory Bodies of the Crown and other distinguished guests. The authors are Mr. Dragomir Acovic, chairman of the Crown Council and Mr. Ljubodrag Grujic, Herald of the Royal House.

“We are a nation that loves symbols, even when we fight or even go to war because of them. Perhaps that’s why! Rarely I had met my countryman, who would not believe that he knew everything important about the Serbian coat of arms and the flag and believed that all who did not agree on that point were either ignorant, or traitors! Most often both! Unlike the British and the Russians, who are concerned with heraldry systemically and systematically, we are dealing with it viscerally and theatrically.

The exhibition “Heraldry of the House of Karadjordje” was first presented to the public at Oplenac, at King Peter’s house last year. Tonight, in a slightly different scope, it is presented here at the White Palace. Both venues are truly appropriate for a topic that is not only heraldic, but to the greatest possible extent historical and sentimental”, said Mr. Dragomir Acovic, chairman of the Crown Council and one of the authors of the exhibition.

The guests at the opening were able to enjoy coffee and refreshments provided by the “Bean and Leaf” company.

The exhibition “Heraldry of the House of Karadjordje” will be open to the public until March 7, on weekdays, the tours beginning at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.
